On Sunday 15th January
at 12 noon on the occasion of the departure in Alicante, Spain, of the largest sailing
marathon around the world, two eliminations were organised for the final of the
X World Pesto Championship to be held in Genoa in March 2024. In the afternoon
after the pesto mortar competition, at the actual departure of the Ocean Race
sailors there was a direct connection with Alicante on the ledwall in front of
Palazzo San Giorgio one of the oldest painted palaces of the ancient Genoese
Republic.
The Pesto al Mortaio
with its Championship will tour the world together with The Ocean Race, sharing
some of its stages, in addition to Alicante and Genoa for the grand finale, in
Cape Town (South Africa), Itajai (Brazil), Newport (USA), Aaarhus (Denmark) and
The Hague (Netherlands). The good wind
of the regatta thus speaks of Genoa and smells of basil.
