In ancient bookbinding
works, the files that made up the books were sewn by hand with meticulous care.
The sheets were made of the finest parchment or simple paper obtained from the
maceration of rags.
Today, manual stitching is reserved for prestigious volumes
or refined notebooks, perhaps made of ecological paper, and has been replaced
by the new techniques of hot binding or thread binding (more similar to the old
stitching).
In the same way, new digital printing coexists with traditional
lithography in artisan printing houses.
