In ancient book-binding workshops, books are sewn together by hand with minute attention paid to detail. Pages of fine parchment or the more humble paper made from rags, are bound together today for valuable editions. Modern variations can use ecological paper, or use new hot gluing techniques (used on softback books) or new sewing techniques similar to those of ancient sewing, in the same manner as new digital printing exists alongside artisan type-setting in traditional lithography.
