OLD LEATHER WORKSHOP MASTE

The workshop of the ancient artisanworkshop 'Maste' is located in the beautiful town of Sestri Levante less than 50 kilometres from Genoa and produces leather and hide articles, items that evoke the elegance of travellers at the turn of the century, recall country style, or are in line with the latest fashion trends.  A very important piece of information is the type of leather used. This is Genuine Italian Vegetable Tanned Leather, an Italian excellence that is the heritage of Tuscan craftsmanship, which has remained unchanged over the centuries and consists of the use of strictly natural products to transform raw hide into leather.

For this reason, leather and hide do not cause allergies. The processing begins with the raw hide being worked to prepare it to absorb tanning substances, the most important of which is tannin, a natural product extracted from the bark of certain trees such as the chestnut. In large wooden drums, the hide takes forty days to transform into a natural leather with characteristics of softness, resistance, perfume, colour and appearance that are still unmatched by products derived from industrial processing. A not secondary aspect is that the objects produced by Maste last over time, gradually acquiring an inimitable charm that can only derive from the type of tanning.
