Another proposal of unique ceramic objects reminiscent of the sea
produced by the 'Tornesino', an artisan workshop located in Vico dei
Garibaldi,12r a short alleyway connecting the very central Via 25 Aprile with
Via Luccoli in Genoa's historical centre. "L'Acciughina' (little anchovy) is a ceramic fridge magnet with
a small, powerful neodymium magnet. The 'blue bowls' are cups with a special
sea-colour glaze made on a lathe and suitable for everyday use, even in the
dishwasher. The 'aquarium bowls', enamelled with a water effect, are refined
decorative pieces for everyday use that are not suitable for food use.
The alley in which Ilaria Traverso's
workshop, owner of the Tornesino, is located has medieval origins and is named
after the ancient Garibaldi family, which in 1393 counted a Doge of the
Republic, in 1547 sided with the Fieschi family during the famous conspiracy
that opposed them to the Dorias, and also later played an active role in
Genoese history. Giuseppe, the protagonist of the Risorgimento and the
Unification of Italy, the famous “hero of the two worlds”, is a descendant from
a branch of this family that moved to Nice in the early 19th century.
