A magnificent, frescoed hall on the main floor of the Casatorre palace in via di Sottoripa, in Genoa, has been home to luthier Pio Montanari’s shop for over 25 years. In his deliberately old-looking workshop, Pio Montanari makes and restores violins, violas, and cellos following the strictest luthier tradition, through constant studies on the various construction and restoration methods, from the selection of the best available materials to the identification of the ideal polishing treatment, to ensure the best possible acoustics and sound power.
